About Cindy Pelley
Hello all! I’m Cindy Pelley, a big kid at heart who wants to pass my love of learning to you and your kids. I currently live in Ohio, United States, with my loved ones. I love to read and do research and implement that into my writing, especially if I get to express those facts more uniquely and creatively. (After all, kids need to have fun while learning to have the information stick in their minds, and adults need to be just as entertained when reading children’s writing.)
Ever since I could pick up a pen (or rather, marker), I loved to write! I made picture books when I was a little kid, though they never got published. My love for creative nonfiction writing began when I was seven (turning eight). I attended a cultural event at my school and was so fascinated by it that I made books with facts about different countries. I gave these books to different classes in my school, and the students and teachers absolutely loved them!
I did more creative nonfiction writing over the years through different mediums (including a rap about the solar system for a summer camp talent show), but this also conflicted with other interests growing up. However, I began taking creative nonfiction writing more seriously in my junior year of college when I took a science writing class, which I wrote some fun and creative science assignments for, and discovered that I had a gift for explaining written information that’s engaging. It was then I knew I wanted to write creative nonfiction pieces for kids.
I graduated from Notre Dame College in 2021 with a dual Bachelor’s Degree in English and History. Despite this, I can write about most topics (I ironically love science topics the most) and for most audiences. I work part-time as a library page and part-time writing creative nonfiction pieces (including blog posts) for Cell Work LLC, but I am ultimately working to become an independent writer.
In my free time, I love to read, spend time with friends, watch kids’ cartoons and YouTube videos, and play video games, specifically the turn-based strategy game series Fire Emblem. (These interests also help me relate to my younger readers.)
No matter if you’re a kid, teen, parent, teacher, principal, children’s librarian, or anything else, I hope my writing entertains you and teaches you something new!
